Research Interests
I am a climate science researcher. My research investigates how physical processes in the atmosphere shape climate variability and change, with a particular emphasis on the Indian summer monsoon. I study how multiscale interactions, spanning local convective cloud systems to large-scale circulation, influence monsoon rainfall. A key contribution of my work is advancing our understanding of how rain-producing clouds are represented in climate models, and how their organisation influences monsoon behaviour. I am currently investigating the response of the monsoon(s) to idealised stratospheric aerosol forcing that reduces incoming solar radiation (often referred to as “solar radiation management” or “solar geoengineering” if you like). I completed my PhD at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (India). International experience during my training has been central to my development as a researcher. I have held research positions at the University of Victoria (Canada), New York University Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), Yonsei University (South Korea), and the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (Austria), and I am currently based at the University of Exeter (United Kingdom).
